Aug. 14, 2000 Javits-Wagner-O'Day (JWOD) Program Signs Historic Environmental Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the U.S. Department of Interior and Environmental Protection Agency

The goals of the MOA are to maximize Federal Agency purchases of environmentally preferable products and services, and purchasing the same from the JWOD Program, a mandatory source of products and services for the government. The agreement also enhances environmental initiatives the JWOD Program implemented in response to Executive Order 13101: Greening the Government Through Waste Prevention, Recycling and Federal Acquisition.
Aug. 2, 2000 Department of the Interior Opens First JWOD Program Cabinet Level Office Supply Store that is also First "Green" Office Supply Store

Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today in the Main Building of the U.S. Department of the Interior for the first office supply store operated by people who are blind and disabled at a cabinet-level facility of the federal government. Operated by the Blind Industries of Maryland, the Office Eagle store provides a convenient source of recycled and "green" products within the workplace of the federal government's leading conservation department as well as for other federal agencies nationwide via the web.
Apr. 18, 2000 2000 Alley Award Winner Announced, Mr. Stephen Arginteanu

The E.R. "Dick" Alley, Jr. Javits-Wagner-O'Day Career Achievement Award was established by the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled to recognize individuals who demonstrate extraordinary achievement and sustained effort in utilizing the Federal procurement system to create employment and training opportunities for people who are blind or have other severe disabilities under the JWOD Program. Stephen Arginteanu is Procurement Technical Advisor for the General Services Administration's (GSA) Public Building Service (PBS) in New York city.

Apr. 5, 2000 Library of Congress Contract Provides Employment for People with Severe Disabilities

On Thursday, March 16, 2000, the Library of Congress welcomed a new contractor for janitorial services, The Chimes, Inc., a Baltimore-based nonprofit agency that provides vocational training to people with severe disabilities. The Chimes' janitorial staff of over 40 employees with severe disabilities will clean the Library's Jefferson, Adams, and Madison buildings on Capitol Hill as well as the Little Scholars Child Development Center on Sixth Street N.E.

Javits-Wagner-O'Day E-Commerce Website now open for Business

The www.jwod.com site provides Federal customers with convenient, one-stop shopping. It also assures that purchases comply with the JWOD Act, which requires Federal agencies to buy certain supplies and services from nonprofit agencies employing persons who are blind or severely disabled.
