Environmental Partnerships
The JWOD Program has partnered with other Federal and nonprofit
agencies that want to make it easy for Federal customers to adhere
to Executive Order 13101 and other environmental mandates. These
partnerships help the JWOD Program learn how to make its products
and services more environmentally preferable so Federal customers
can easily find a JWOD supplier to meet their needs.
Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency
The JWOD Program teamed up with the DOI and the EPA in signing
a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
The goals of the MOA are to maximize Federal agency purchases of
environmentally preferable products and services, and purchasing
the same from the JWOD Program. The agreement also enhances already
existing JWOD Program initiatives implemented in response to Executive
Order 13101.
In accordance with the MOA, Blind Industries and Services of Maryland
(BISM), a JWOD-participating nonprofit agency, opened the first
"green" Office Supply Store and the first JWOD Program Supply Center
in a cabinet-level facility. All products stocked in the store,
located at the DOI's Washington, D.C. headquarters, were screened
to ensure the highest environmental attributes.
Green Seal
Green Seal, a third-party, independent environmental standards
setting nonprofit organization, reviewed the environmental claims
of certain JWOD products, such as Easter Seals of Western Pennsylvania's
DayMax Calendar refills, Seattle Lighthouse for the Blind's business
cards, and paper napkins and towels from the New Orleans Lighthouse
for the Blind, LC Industries, and LCI-Signature Works. All paper
products passed the rigorous inspection and became certified environmental
products under the pilot.
General Services Administration
In coordination with the General Services Administration (GSA),
JWOD conducted a review of its paper office supplies included on
the Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines (CPG) list. The review
was conducted to ensure that these offerings meet recycled content
requirements according to the Recovered Materials and Advisory Notice
(RMAN) issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and
in compliance with Executive Order 13101 requirements.
